Halfway House manager Adam Cohen wanted to make his new children's menu as 'user friendly' as possible so he approached Yeadon Westfield and invited the pupils to get involved and come up with a design for the front cover. The winning entry was chosen by the staff at the pub and, in order to make the prize presentations as memorable as possible, Adam visited the school to show the pupils some of his theatrical cocktail making skills - without the alcohol, of course.
It was literally a case of 'mocktails and mayhem' when all 120 pupils joined in the fun. Adam had everyone involved in cheering on their winning fellow pupils then he used his skills as a professional flair bartender to put on a show full of bottle-throwing, ice-shaking, juice-pouring splendour that had his young audience oo-ing and ah-ing! Everyone got to sample a taster of the fruity mocktails and the general consensus was 'yum'!
All 120 pupils in the school took part in the competition so they each got to demonstrate their creative prowess and design elements ranged from spaceships to smoothies! The winning design was created by seven-year-old Abaas Bashir, while six-year-old Vinny (VJ) Pattison's entry won him second place and seven-year-old Felicity Jones took third place.
As winner, Abaas received a £40 voucher for his family to spend at The Halfway House. Second prize was a £30 voucher and third prize was a £20 voucher. Adam also presented 25% off vouchers to four pupils he felt deserved highly commended recognition. The top seven each received a laminated copy of their entry to take home.
Abaas' design will now be incorporated into the pub's children's menu, which will be used for the next six months. The menu includes a range of healthy options for smaller appetites, as well as some popular favourites, such as sausage and chips followed by ice cream. All meals are priced at under £5.
